Problems

Standing on this weather-worn hill
Staring up at the inky night sky
That we both had shared at one time
Wishing we could go back to that time

The stars seems to twinkle
With a gentle kind of benevolence
Telling me everything will be all right
Even as they slowly fade from sight

These foggy eyes, gazing upon the inky sky
We once shared on this very hill
Holding each other's hands
And whispering sweet nothings into the dark

I continue to whisper but there are no ears to hear
I strain my eyes, trying to see past this veil draped over me.
I am lonely, like this dying tree that we once shared shade under
Our memories etched into its peeling and bug-infested bark

These foggy eyes, gazing upon the inky sky
We once shared on this very hill
Creating memories and sharing secrets
On our secret rendez-vous upon its soft grass.

The grass under my feet
Is growing more distant as it fades
Fades into brown dirt and decaying leaves
Like my lonely and pained heart.

These foggy eyes, gazing upon the inky sky
We once shared on this very hill
Holding each other close
Smiling about sweets lies being told by each other's eyes

You are gone now
Departed from this world
Leaving me here on top of this hill
With nothing but foggy memories and the snowfall.

These foggy eyes, gazing upon the inky sky
We once shared on this very hill
Watching our breath turn into smoke
And float away into the night sky with the falling snow.

The same snow falls, pin pricks of cold against my reddened cheeks.
My hands have no feeling and no memories of your skin
Everything grows silent and fades to black
As the snow falls and the lonely tree creaks in the night

These foggy eyes, gazing upon the inky sky
We once shared on this very hill
We once shared these gentle moments
Watching the snow fall and catch on our eyelashes.

All that falls are tears from these eyes now.
I am scared and alone, no one left to comfort me.
As the snow catches my eyes and falls softly
Almost as comforting as the fading stars.

I close my eyes, memories flooding my mind
Those beautiful days and nights
Sharing these very stars and this very night with you
The night we met, on our secret rendez-vous.

These foggy eyes, gazing upon the inky sky
We once shared on this very hill
I can let go of these memories
Even though I am scared to move on

I let go, let go of the lonely tree
Leaving it with no one
The only recollection of these memories
That I shared with you, on this snow covered hill

On this snow covered hill
Left until the snow melts away
Telling the world of our love, our memories
And of our last night on this hill.

We once shared this very hill
And upon this very hill
We will meet again
Reliving our secret rendez-vous.

Nothing kept hidden...
